Frei Brothers: Pinot Noir
by Nikki Toll on February 3rd, 2010

I’m always on the lookout for a great mid-priced bottle of wine. I wouldn’t consider myself any sort of a connoisseur, however, I have consumed my fair share of wine. At a recent get together with some girlfriends at the Classic Cup here on the Plaza, an owner of the restaurant stopped by our table and suggested the Frei Brothers Pinot Noir. Continue Reading…

Spring Spotlight: Milly
by Abigail Kretsinger on February 2nd, 2010

We are going crazy for this 60’s inspired collection.  It has the perfect combination of psychedelic prints, lady-like jackets, and simple shifts.  We love how she was able to incorporate the many influential style elements from this iconic time period.  Pair her spring pieces with items you already have to give your wardrobe that new-vintage feel.

Buyer’s Pick of the Week
by Lindsay Burt on February 1st, 2010

My favorite item this week is on point with the biggest footwear trend for Spring–the oxford! It’s the Joie “Louie Louie” oxford and it is one of the best flats I’ve seen for this season. I love the fact that you can wear a flat for comfort and still look polished. The cognac color of the “Louie Louie” is perfect for Spring and looks great with easy day dresses or rolled denim.

Models Refuse to Wear Ten-inch Heels
by Kristen Coulson on January 29th, 2010

Neither the prestige of Alexander McQueen’s runway or the pay check of Fashion Week could  persuade three Vogue cover girls to step in to these heels. Abbey Lee Kershaw, Natasha Poly and Sasha Pivovarova refused to wear the ten-inch-tall Armadillo stilettos of Alexander McQueen and were subsequently cut from the show.
Reportedly Kershaw as been a victim of McQueen’s fashion in the past, fainting after walking the runway in a corset that was too tight.

Seeing Red: SAG Awards 2010
by Abigail Kretsinger on January 28th, 2010

Celebrities gave us a glimpse into one of spring’s biggest trends this year at the SAG awards.  Stars like Katherine Heigel, Jane Krakowski, and Claire Danes dared to be bold on the carpet in red.  This punch of color is perfect for transitioning from winter to spring.  Pair a red dress with black tights now, then go bare-legged when the temperatures rise with strappy heels.  If a bright dress is too much for you, embrace this trend with a red handbag, jacket, or silky top.

Buyer’s Pick of the Week
by Lindsay Burt on January 27th, 2010

My pick this week is the perfect transitional dress. It is the Arita dress by Diane Von Furstenberg and it’s great for when you are tired of the same old winter looks but the weather hasn’t turned quite warm enough for spring styles. The dress is an updated version of the bandage dress that was so popular this fall, but comes in a light weight, stretch material and bold colors. We carry it in “Dragon Red” which is a great color to pick up now since it’s the hottest color for spring.

New Album: Vampire Weekend – Contra
by Ryan Strong on January 22nd, 2010

With Vampire Weekend’s new album Contra the band solidifies themselves as more then an ‘indie band’. Having sold over 124,000 copies in it’s first week, Contra became the highest selling album in the country.

Contra was the right move for the band, they stuck to what they do great, musically, and did not make any experimental moves but moreover eccentric moves. If you liked their first album, you’ll love the second album, easy.

The album kicks off with “Horchata”, you are guarantied to have the first line of the song stuck in your head along with the tip taps of marimbas. Like “Horchata” every song has a nice mix of organic instruments along with synthetic sounds of keyboards, so you still feel genuine musicianship and not just a computer doing the work. Vampire Weekend skipped the sophomore slump album, let’s hope they can continue with their next album.

Listen to Horchata

Buyer’s Pick of the Week
by Lindsay Burt on January 19th, 2010

I can’t believe it, but Spring fashions are already here! Resort and pre-spring deliveries have arrived and they look amazing! There might still be snow on the ground, but if you are lucky enough to travel to warmer climates you might need to pick up a few new pieces. My pick this week is perfect for many getaway destinations. It’s the chain link tank dress by Milly. The dress is jersey so you can take it most anywhere and throw it on. The navy and white coloring gives it a nautical feel and the chain link design is fun, but sophisticated.

According to Radiohead’s blog, Dead Air Space, Ed (guitarist) states that the band is in the studio and working on a new album. He states that they are continuing work that they started last Summer. There isn’t an expected release date but it is enough for me to know that they showed up to work and that things are going good. Continue Reading…
