Standard Style Magazine shot on location at Kansas City Museum’s Corinthian Hall. We feel so fortunate for the opportunity and full access to this historic KC landmark. Above is a sneak peek of the Spring/Summer Magazine and below is a list of events hosted by Corinthian Hall for March.
2010 marks the 100th anniversary of Corinthian Hall, the residence of Robert A. Long and his family, and the historic home of the Kansas City Museum. The Corinthian Hall Centennial will be celebrated all year long with special events, programs and activities.
The Kansas City Museum will be celebrating the “century mark” each month with a dynamic series of lectures, workshops, books, films and seminars that highlight Corinthian Hall’s unique architecture and the Long family’s deep and abiding commitment to the civic well-being of Kansas City.

We long for the warmer weather but we are being faced with cold man winter every other day around here in Kansas City. But if your anything like me all you want to do is start buying for spring. Good news for you, you can start today. One of our summer must have is the denim short. We saw this trend start last fall but it’s continuing in these transition months with layering a patterned or opaque tight underneath and pairing it with your favorite bootie. Check these pics for inspiration.
My pick for this week is the Marc by Marc “Acasia Dress” and our boutiques have it in both the blue color way and all black. It’s really one of the most unique dresses that came in for Spring. I just love it’s techno/sporty vibe and the cut out in the back is such and unexpected way to show some skin with out revealing too much. And the best part about this dress–it retails for only $198! That’s such a cool look for such a great price point!

We’ve all been watching Whitney Port for a few years now starting on The Hills and now a New York transplant trying to make it in The City. And while we have all witnessed a few hits and misses from this rising fashion icon it seems as of recent the Whit has really come into her own. Spotted all around New York fashion week and events around town this reality star really has perfected an easy yet polished look. It seems instead of loads of layers and prints that we’ve seen in the past the new Whitney is sticking to basic yet well constructed pieces that could fit into anyone’s wardrobe, classics. And to finish each look Whitney goes for the classic red lip which she pulls off so well.

This ticketed exhibition will be held at The Nelson Atkins Museum of Art Bloch Building, Gallery L13
The show will run May 15, 2010—July 25, 2010
Edward Steichen, was the chief photographer for Condé Nast’s Vogue and Vanity Fair from 1923-1937. The museum will feature approximately 150 works by Steichen, one of the twentieth century’s leading figures in photography. Continue Reading…

This season at Fashion Week new up and coming designer Marisol Henriquez debuted her new collection. Here’s some pics backstage to catch the trends and get the look on makeup!
To compliment Henriquez’s bold color palate was a bold smokey eye in a bronze tone to compliment the clothing but in no way steal the show. The lashes were dark and lined with black liner to create a look of fullness. The face was kept matte with soft cheeks along with a soft natural tone lip to polish of the look.

The party dress is back for spring. Think 80’s modern for the newest sweetheart dresses for any event. Brights are everywhere and especially blues and oranges. As always the little black dress is easy and still on trend.

This season’s hottest silhouettes is the one shoulder. Take it from these runway looks and pull it into your wardrobe through dresses, tops, or swimwear.
Once upon a time in the late seventies, Christian Restoin—the longtime partner of Carine Roitfeld—married the aesthetics of Network and disco with a line of breezy silk menswear-styled shirts for women called Equipment. Throughout the eighties and nineties, they were the linchpin day-to-night item in a smart city girl’s wardrobe. For a label to shutter because of family and business politics, as happened here, is a familiar nineties story. But it’s a promising one Equipment’s telling for the aughts: The line re-launches for Spring 2010.
Serge Azria—brother of Max, owner of Current/Elliott and Joie, and now informal “guardian” of Equipment– reveals that Restoin, who remains connected to the newly relaunched brand, has kept every Equipment shirt ever created in his Paris archives—all 3,500 of them. Meanwhile, the 135 new Equipment styles do the brand’s “new vintage” legacy justice and integrate seamlessly into the tailored, menswear-inspired trends hitting New York’s runways this week. That’s something mothers and daughters alike can appreciate.

A big thanks to one of our favorite blogs for the Baldwin Denim love!
From Sartorially Inclined:
Wednesday Morning Inspiration: Girls In Selvedge Denim
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, a woman in selvedge denim is a magical thing – talk about a collaboration for the ages. Big ups to Baldwin Denim for helping make my dreams a reality. If there are any women out there looking for some new jeans, look no further. You should probably grab a pair of Clarks while you’re at it especially if you’re serious about breaking some hearts.
I think my iTunes stopped counting plays on my Pretend Not to Love EP, Tigercity’s EP, from being played so much. That being said, I’ve anticipated the release of their first full length for what feels like forever. Now the wait is over.
Tigercity makes you dance. They are a cross-over from vintage pop (think Hall & Oates meets Michael Jackson with a little bit of the Bee Gees thrown in there) to this whole new synth pop stuff – but this time it is a little more genuine, not disposable.
The safari trend is here now and can be styled through multiple prints, solids, and materials. Dress up this look by trying an animal print or safari themed pattern in dresses or embellished tops. Dress down the look through solids in blouses, shorts, and rompers in olives, blacks, and tans. Add layering pieces such as military style jackets to toughen up the outdoor vibe.
This season at fashion week I was lucky enough to grab a front row seat at Juan Carlos Obando’s Fall ‘10 show at Milk Studio’s. What a HOT event and there was some pretty awesome swag!
Awaiting each attendee was a collection of hair care products that fashion designer Obando launched this past year. The collection named Number Four was “founded with the mission to develop a creative, high performance hair care line that runs parallel to fashion, science, art, music and Industrial Design creative cycles.” Each Number Four product claims…”We exclude all ingredients potentially toxic to humans, rare vintage couture, and our dear environment; 100% Vegan, Sulfate, Gluten, Bad Taste and Paraben Free formulas are never ever tested on any animal.”

I know, I know. It’s comfortable. It’s easy; you find your navy zip top, and your navy pants, and you put it on, and you go to yoga, and then to the Whole Foods. But, I must tell you, just like every other trend that has crossed our paths, this one has played out. No different from mall bangs or Z Cavaricci jeans, Juicy velour has had it’s moment in the sun, but that moment has passed. Let’s move on to 2010, shall we? You traded your Discman for an Ipod, right? So why would you wear the same outfit that you wore when you were carrying around your Discman, rocking out to the latest N’Sync CD?
What do I wear now, do you ask? What is my worthy replacement? I have the answer, and it is more than worthy replacement: Free City. Continue Reading…

This season screams feminity with a sophisticated element on dresses. Take the elegance of detail and materials and you get glam at its best this season. Embrace your inner girl and go for the sequin or beaded look.

Where it now with your chunky sweaters and boots. Wear it later with denim cutoffs and bo-ho tops.
