Trend: Capes
by Hannah Geis on August 11th, 2010

The newest outerwear trend for fall 2010 are capes. Even though capes have been arond since early Medieval times, they are back with a new edge. With their quirky and princess-like feel, the cape enables an element of fun and indiviuality. From short to floor-lenght, this fairytale piece is a great investment for your wardrobe.

Get the Look: Cat Eyes
by Mallory Kupchin-Mays on August 10th, 2010

A hot beauty trend that has been seen on all the red carpets this year is the cat eyes. Celebrities like Beyoncé and Angelina Jolie have been spotted sporting this new look.  The key to getting the cat eye look  is to make sure to use some liquid eyeliner ( brown or black). When lining the eye make the line a bit outside the eye with a little curve up.  Add some lip gloss to your lips and you will be ready for a night out on the town!

This line of unique handbags is made from vintage textiles that the designer, Simone, has collected from all over the world. The bags are all brightly colored with various textures and embellishments, such as coins, mirrors, and beads. After Nicole Richie was spotted carrying one of Simone’s bags, they quickly become a hot item for the summer and have been selling out everywhere. They are available in 3 styles, all with the lines signature ethnic flair. If you add one of these unique bags to your look, make sure to keep the rest of your look simple to let your bag stand out!

Army Glam
by Lesley Mann on August 9th, 2010

Model Julia Restoin-Roitfeld was recently spotted wearing an effortless blend of summer and fall trends. As the seasons transition, finding outfits that do the same can be a challenge but Julia managed to pull off a look that is perfect for the move from summer to fall. She combines one of summer’s hottest trends, the nude dress, with fall’s must-have item, the army jacket. Her basic black and gold accessories keep the look classy and help to achieve the perfect balance of army glam. This is a look that we will definitely be seeing more of during the coming months so keep an eye out for ways to modify it just for you!

Buyer’s Pick of the Week
by Lindsay Burt on August 9th, 2010

My pick for this week incorporates two of my favorite trends for fall–glamour and military looks. It’s the Haute Hippie sequin sweat shirt and it’s one of the best pieces for fall. The entire shirt is beaded, giving it a shimmery affect and the army coloring keeps it edgy while staying current with the military trend for fall. I love it paired with a sleek skirt, or dressed down with skinny denim. Either way it’s one of those special pieces that makes a statement no matter how you wear it.

Stay Here: The Ace Hotel New York
by Daniel Cummings on August 8th, 2010
I love when everything makes sense. Let me clarify, I love when I go somewhere (a restaurant, store, house, where ever) and all the pieces fit together ascetically. This was true for my recent stay at the Ace Hotel in New York. The design is great, the staff is well dressed and friendly, and the food and drinks are delicious and interesting. The lobby is designed to be a gathering place, successfully so as I didn’t spend a night out anywhere except the lobby as it’s apparently a hot spot, and the hotel restaurant The Breslin is a sought after dinner location (if you go get the lamb burger, just trust me).
The next time you’re in New York if you don’t stay at the Ace at least grab a drink in the lobby, a meal at The Breslin, or a coffee at Stumptown coffee, it’ll be worth the taxi fare. And for more Ace related info check out their website here and take a look at this video about the architects of The Ace New York, Roman & Williams here (via The Scout).

Scottish Inspiration
by Lesley Mann on August 8th, 2010

Scottish plaids were all over the runways of designer’s Fall collections, making a statement in everything from capes to evening gowns. This look is not just for native kilts anymore, as it has transitioned into the mainstream fashion scene in a variety of colors and applications. Plaid is easily wearable in any form, whether in a traditional bright red by Marc Jacobs or a more subtle olive tone by Louis Vuitton. On the runways, it was almost always accompanied by a chunky dark boot, which is another big trend for Fall. Scottish plaid can be easily incorporated into your wardrobe, just make sure you keep the rest of your look neutral colored and simple!

Vanity Fair’s Best Dressed of 2010
by Lesley Mann on August 6th, 2010

Vanity Fair released their annual list of the international best-dressed style icons, and it had a few surprises! The magazine editors said this year’s list had an eclectic feel and was about individual styling, not fashion trends. The list included both men and women and listed celebrities such as Diane Kruger, David Beckham, and both Maggie and Jake Gyllenhaal. Michelle Obama also made the cut, as did 2 other international First Ladies. Perhaps the most unusual name on the list was Lady Gaga, who’s outrageous outfits both on and off the stage have no doubt been a contributing factor to her success. To check out the complete list of Vanity Fair’s Best Dressed list of 2010, click here.

Trend: Crop Tops
by Mallory Kupchin-Mays on August 5th, 2010

An 80′s trend that is making a comeback this summer is crop tops.  These flirty summer tops can be worn many different ways.  They look great paired with jean shorts for a causal daytime look. The objective is not to show too much skin, just a peak. Wear a crop top with a high-waisted skirt, shorts or over a body-con dress.

Trend: Color Block
by Hannah Geis on August 4th, 2010

As fall is approaching, color block fashion is back as a hot trend. This style has been popular in bright colors for the spring, but it’s moving into fall with neutrals and jewel tones. Contrasting colors or neutral palettes can flatter virtually any body type. Wearing darker colors in color blocking can help you avoid looking like a Rubik’s cube and make the look more sophisticated. A good tip when trying this trend is to avoid pieces that chop your body into separate sections such as a three colorway top.
