Transitional Look: Lace+Military
by
Lesley Mann on August 22nd, 2010

Finding cute looks to wear during the transition from summer to fall can be tricky. One easy fix can be to combine a trendy element from both seasons, such as wearing summery lace with fall’s military style in shorts or a jacket. Apart from combining summer and fall, I love the juxtaposition this look throws together, using ultra-girly fabrics with rough and tough materials. The overall style is truly eye-catching and chic. This look can also be dressed up or down, with a summer heel or a fall boot. However you choose to wear your lace and military, you can’t go wrong!
Daytime Shine
by
Hannah Geis on August 21st, 2010

Sequins and sparkle aren’t just for nighttime fashion anymore. Add some shine to dreary days with embellished staples. For daytime shine, choose pieces with subtle embellishment. Try a pair of sequin shorts with a solid color tee or a glittery top under a sweater or blazer.
Retro Inspiration

Kristina Nilsen on August 20th, 2010

Designers this fall are bringing 1950′s glamour back into our lives again. From big skirts and cat-eye sunglasses to feminine suits, the 50′s will be a much seen trend and I’m so excited to see this time of elegance brought back…and hopefully continued throughout more seasons. Many designers are applying this to professional wear for ladies, as well as men, which I think is a great chance to bring more elegance to the workplace.

Fall’s Top 6 Color Trends
by
Lesley Mann on August 19th, 2010

The most popular colors seen on the Fall 2010 runways varied from rich and dark to light and neutral. There is a flattering color for everyone, as well as must have colors that coincide with the season’s must have items. For outerwear, pick something in a Camel color or Olive Green. Camel coats are back and would be a great investment piece since they are also a classic style. Olive coats go hand in hand with Fall’s hottest outerwear trend, the military jacket. For dressier events, choose a look in Rich Purple or modern Metallic. Both of these colors were seen on luxurious fabrics, with the metallic showing up in shades of gold matte. Classic Red also made a huge statement on the runways, seen in looks from head to toe, as well as in tops paired with black tights. The surprise color trend for fall was Pale Blue, which designers used in everything from sweaters and suits to evening gowns and tights. As you’re out shopping for your fall wardrobe, be sure to keep these color trends in mind!

Fall 2010 is making it’s way to stores everywhere and with all the cashmere, leather and denim the sheer blouse is keeping looks light and airy. But one thing is needed to keep these looks PG and that is the right lingerie. Cosabella lace bandeaux and bra-lets are the perfect underpinning to all of your favorite sheer pieces.

Color Trend: Camel
by
Hannah Geis on August 17th, 2010

Camel-colored pieces are all the rage this fall. A class color from the 50s, this neutral is fall’s new black. Camel blazers and overcoats are the biggest trend, along with matching camel pants. Gucci, Chloé, 3.1 Phillip Lim, and Michael Kors all showed camel-colored wardrobes on the runway. If you want to work camel into your wardrobe more subtly, opt for camel accessories.
Fall Transition: Leather Mini Skirt
by
Allie Palmer on August 17th, 2010

My pick for the best fall transitional piece is definitely the leather mini skirt. Since real leather pieces can be an investment make it worth the money and look for a leather mini with a clean silhouette and good length. This season we are seeing the skirt done in many shades of leather I would stick to traditional black as it can go with anything or for something a little different pick a skirt in a nude hue that will fit in great with the neutral trend this fall. Booties and an oversized sweater can finish your daytime look, and change into a sky-high platform heel and silky blouse for your night out.
Buyer’s Pick of the Week
by
Lindsay Burt on August 16th, 2010
The summer is winding down and it’s back to school time again! If you are not quite ready for it yet, maybe this Fall’s emerging “prep school” trend will inspire you. Tartan plaids, stripes, and classic red & blue hues will be very big this fall as well as preppy button-downs, polished mini skirts, and oxford shoes. I especially love this Marc by Marc “Ripley Tartan Dress.” It’s a bold way to get the prep school look and it also has a high fashion edge.
The Aviator Jacket
by
Hannah Geis on August 16th, 2010

The aviator jacket is emerging as a popular outerwear piece for fall. A close cousin to the favorite motorcycle jacket, the aviator style is soft with a rugged feel. It boasts features such as a leather or suede exterior, dramatic collar, and snuggly inside. This can be worn with just about anything as a stylish accessory. It can serve not only as a gorgeous piece in your wardrobe, but also as a practical one when the temperatures start to drop.
Easy Upgrade: Leather Laces
by
Daniel Cummings on August 15th, 2010

Everyone loves upgrading something you already have, especially when it’s inexpensive. And recently a lot of stylish guys have been upgrading their canvas sneakers with leather laces, because for just a few dollars you can get a 72” pair of Kiwi laces that you can cut in half. Instant upgrade. (photo via You Have Broken The Internet) Also check out YHBTI’s Ryan Plett’s What I’m Wearing segment to see his vans with leather laces and Baldwin Denim.
Fall Trend: Boots with High Socks
by
Mallory Kupchin-Mays on August 15th, 2010

Be looking out for knee high boots worn with wool socks this fall. This is a great way to put a new spin on your boots from last season. To complete the look wear some shorts or jeggings and a boyfriend cardigan for a chic fall look.
Fall/Winter 2010 Denim Trends
by
Kristina Nilsen on August 14th, 2010

As we transition from Summer to Fall and Winter, it’s important to keep up with the denim trends because there are so many this upcoming season! The big look is clean and polished. We are seeing more tapered in and tailored looks in darker washes along with metallic-finished leggings and cargo skinnies like the Current Elliott’s that became so popular this season. These trends are important when showing off your new Fall jackets as well. A cute jacket is always in need of a flattering pair of skinnies to bring focus to it. If you need a pop in your ensemble, a rolled hem also brings attention to those plain skinny jeans you’re bringing back out of your closet. I recently found a dark-washed pair from about four years ago that I never wore until now- after I made a cuff at the bottom and paired them with some pumps!
Cover Up
by
Kristina Nilsen on August 13th, 2010

The outerwear report for Fall is rapidly expanding with trends. From over-sized parkas to trenches, designers have brought a rush of variety for us to pick and choose from to create our own personal style for the season. So far, layering is the dominating trend on the runway. The more layers the better. I have also seen a lot of minis paired with over-sized coats and leggings added on to accentuate the legs (I would try the Alice + Olivia faux leather leggings). Putting heavy emphasis on the upper body flatters the lower body! There is also a lot of 50′s-style inspiration in several collections which bring cardigans and cropped jackets in the mix. Capes are also going to be a huge trend. Whether short or long, they can put a lot of class or uniqueness to an ensemble.
Peregrine Honig
by
Emily Baldwin on August 12th, 2010
Shout out to Kansas City’s Peregrine Honig for an amazing performance on Bravo’s, “Work of Art: The Next Great Artist”. Her final project was completely inspirational with its county fair theme. Her room set included wax horses, heads, frames, and had a photograph of two taxidermy fawns for the side show. Although not the winner her creativity and energy was top notch. Kansas City is lucky to have such a talented artist amongst our society.

Head to Toe Prints
by
Lesley Mann on August 12th, 2010

One of the biggest trends in the designer Resort collections was the use of prints. Unique standout fabrics were everywhere, even being mixed with other prints and being applied from head to toe. This use of head to toe prints helped created memorable looks without being too loud or distracting. Designers used neutral color palettes on relatively small patterns when using a full body print. The majority of the styles were full body suits, which helped maintain the continuity of the look and simplified a style that could easily overwhelm the wearer. If you try this trend, be sure and stick to a smaller print with no more than 3 or 4 colors to keep things simple!

StangePort KC opens in the crossroads.
StagePort, boasting three shooting stages and authored by OfficePort co-founders Shaul Jolles and Michael Edmonson, its general manager, Jon Trozzolo, and builder, Jeff Owens, seems poised to become a major player in the development of this district. It will have limitless backdrop capabilities and one of the largest green-screen stages in the region. Appropriately, it is an off-shoot of the mail OfficePort center — a free-flowing series of individual office “pods” that encourages entrepreneurial thought, with its communal principle that provides full amenities while furnishing several meeting places for tenants to share ideas.

This beaded jacket is such a staple for the on the go woman. Add it to the simplest of all outfits: white tank and destroyed denim and it makes it go from super casual to instantly chic. Carry this over for fall back to your favorite skinny jeans and boots for an effortless night out!
