Smooth Transition
by Kristen Coulson on March 10th, 2010

Don’t let this fashion forward trend scare you..these sweatshorts are actually easy to style and oh so comfortable. Meant to be worn low on the hips these shorts are a great transition piece. Wear them now with jackets, scarves and ankle boots. Wear them later with tanks and heels for a fashion forward casual chic.

Fall Forward: Prep
by Emily Baldwin on March 10th, 2010

While the majority of people are adjusting to the new spring fashion trends, I am scouring the markets and runways to make purchases for the next fall season. After spending a week in New York City here is a preview of new looks to come.
Making its way in to many collections was the prep-ster trend of reds, plaids, tartan prints, and cardigans.

Buyer’s Pick of the Week
by Lindsay Burt on March 10th, 2010

My pick for this week is a must have item for spring–the jumper. I know the idea of a “onesie” was a little hard to wrap our brains around last spring when rompers and jumpers first hit, but it’s time to step outside of your comfort zone and let them into your wardrobe. They are back in a big way this spring and not only are they cute on, they make getting dressed a lot less complicated. My favorite is the tie front jumpsuit by Elizabeth and James. It’s got a great button up detail on the neckline and the slouchy fit of the pant is not only flattering, but very on trend with its’ harem pant inspiration. This jumpsuit is perfect for a casual spring day with gladiators and a few chunky bangles, or dressed up for night with some strappy heels and gold jewelry.

New York Fashion Week Beauty: Cheeky

We didn’t see the typical focus on eyes or lips at the Marc Jacobs show. Instead the makeup was heavy on the cheeks for a warm glow.

Fall Forward: Military

While the majority of people are adjusting to the new spring fashion trends, I am scouring the markets and runways to make purchases for the next fall season. After spending a week in New York City here is a preview of new looks to come.
The most prominent new trend impacting all the collections was military inspiration: look for it in coats, olive silk blouses and tanks, oatmeal colored sweaters, olive dresses, military boots, and a touch of cargo silk pants.

Oscars 2010: Christoph Waltz
by Daniel Cummings on March 9th, 2010

Christoph Waltz not only had my favorite performance of the year, as Hans Landa in “Inglorious Basterds”, but looked killer in a nicely tailored shawl collar tux on Oscar night. The beard mixed with the class of a great tux and the perfectly imperfect bow tie made for a great look.

Oscars 2010: The Leading Men
by Kristen Coulson on March 9th, 2010

You may think a tux is a tux is a tux…but when it comes to the men at the Oscars its all in the details. Tom Ford looked dashing and I loved the magnolia that seemed to be made of paper.  Jake Gyllenhaal was classic with a slightly smaller bow tie. Christopher Plumber stole the show in my book. His navy tux jacket and red pocket scarf made him every bit the leading man. Taylor Lautner’s skinny shawl collar tux was a great update on a classic style.

Google KC – The Future Of Kansas City?
by Ryan Strong on March 9th, 2010

We’ve all seen science fiction movies that take place in the future where humans can travel from galaxy to galaxy in seconds, people can teleport, there are flying cars, computers have touch screens, cars run off electricity, someone has a cellphone, computer, GPS and internet all in one device, you can order pizza over the internet… wait a second… this is starting to sound like reality not science fiction.

Google has announced that it will be selecting only a handful of cities to test out it’s new ultra-high speed broadband networks that will deliver internet speeds of up to 100x times faster then your typical internet connection! What if Kansas City had this science fiction reality? Continue Reading…

Local Hot Spot: Blanc Burgers and Bottles
by Emily Baldwin on March 8th, 2010

A local favorite burger joint  has moved and we are so excited about their newest location on the country club plaza. A perfect spot for lunch or dinner Blanc Burger and Bottles can meet anyones appetite. Known for their gourmet burgers, every menu item is creative and delicious. My favorites include the bison burger and the au poivre burger. Not craving beef? try the delicious turkey burger. And for a vegetarian option, the portobello burger. If you haven’t branched out from the burgers I suggest definitnely trying the calamari fries and the butter lettuce salad. And for a different option on french fries opt for the sweet potato fries (served in a shopping cart). Their shakes use local dairy farm Shatto milk, and the strawberry is a must have. Blanc also features an extensive bottled beer menu. The atmosphere is lively with modern decor and with that comes an energetic ambience. Check out their catering options as well for events. Blanc is located on the Country Club Plaza and at Mission Farms in Leawood.
