Sweating with the King Of Cool
by
Daniel Cummings on September 5th, 2010

Guys let’s be honest, when we go to work out we usually don’t care how we look. The only problem is that by not caring we look ridiculous, you know the techie cloth, matching outfit complete with wristbands that I’m talking about. So like Steve McQueen himself, why not go with a classic grey sweat pant (though I’d recommend wearing a shirt, unless you are actually Steve McQueen). Alternative Apparel has a great pant for a great price.

by
Daniel Cummings on August 15th, 2010

Everyone loves upgrading something you already have, especially when it’s inexpensive. And recently a lot of stylish guys have been upgrading their canvas sneakers with leather laces, because for just a few dollars you can get a 72” pair of Kiwi laces that you can cut in half. Instant upgrade. (photo via You Have Broken The Internet) Also check out YHBTI’s Ryan Plett’s What I’m Wearing segment to see his vans with leather laces and Baldwin Denim.

Stay Here: The Ace Hotel New York
by
Daniel Cummings on August 8th, 2010

I love when everything makes sense. Let me clarify, I love when I go somewhere (a restaurant, store, house, where ever) and all the pieces fit together ascetically. This was true for my recent stay at the Ace Hotel in New York. The design is great, the staff is well dressed and friendly, and the food and drinks are delicious and interesting. The lobby is designed to be a gathering place, successfully so as I didn’t spend a night out anywhere except the lobby as it’s apparently a hot spot, and the hotel restaurant The Breslin is a sought after dinner location (if you go get the lamb burger, just trust me).
The next time you’re in New York if you don’t stay at the Ace at least grab a drink in the lobby, a meal at The Breslin, or a coffee at Stumptown coffee, it’ll be worth the taxi fare. And for more Ace related info check out their website here and take a look at this video about the architects of The Ace New York, Roman & Williams here (via The Scout).

Superga Footwear
by
Daniel Cummings on May 1st, 2010

Every man needs certain items in his wardrobe, a blue blazer, white button down, and grey v-neck sweater to name a few. But one of the most under appreciated has to be the white sneaker. Its been a staple of stylish men for decades (if you need evidence look no further than the king of cool himself Mr. McQueen) when going casual. With that we here at The Oxford are always on the look out for good staple pieces for guys, and we’ve found a great white sneaker from Italian shoemaker Superga. Simple, comfortable, and affordable these sneakers are a great compliment for your favorite denim, khaki, or short for the spring/summer. Just do us a favor and don’t wear them with socks.

Baldwin Denim The 77: 3 Months of Wear
by
Daniel Cummings on April 20th, 2010

I’ve worn my 77s most days over the past 3 and a half months, only a few times have I opted for a khaki instead, and have yet to wash or rinse them. In the past I’ve had a problem with ripping out the crotch of my jeans because I tend to wear them low but so far they’ve been good, no signs of stress yet. As far as the signs of wear I’m pleased with the way they’re wearing, especially in and behind the knee, a nice rich blue color is beginning to show through, which is also pretty evident on the back right pocket from my wallet, that apparently sits in my pocket crooked (who knew). Because the 77s are a pima cotton they’ve gotten ultra soft, the selvage I’ve worn in the past has mainly been kaihara, so I feel like I’m wearing sweatpants some days. Continue Reading…
