Google KC – The Future Of Kansas City?
by Ryan Strong on March 9th, 2010

We’ve all seen science fiction movies that take place in the future where humans can travel from galaxy to galaxy in seconds, people can teleport, there are flying cars, computers have touch screens, cars run off electricity, someone has a cellphone, computer, GPS and internet all in one device, you can order pizza over the internet… wait a second… this is starting to sound like reality not science fiction.

Google has announced that it will be selecting only a handful of cities to test out it’s new ultra-high speed broadband networks that will deliver internet speeds of up to 100x times faster then your typical internet connection! What if Kansas City had this science fiction reality? Continue Reading…

Local Hot Spot: Blanc Burgers and Bottles
by Emily Baldwin on March 8th, 2010

A local favorite burger joint  has moved and we are so excited about their newest location on the country club plaza. A perfect spot for lunch or dinner Blanc Burger and Bottles can meet anyones appetite. Known for their gourmet burgers, every menu item is creative and delicious. My favorites include the bison burger and the au poivre burger. Not craving beef? try the delicious turkey burger. And for a vegetarian option, the portobello burger. If you haven’t branched out from the burgers I suggest definitnely trying the calamari fries and the butter lettuce salad. And for a different option on french fries opt for the sweet potato fries (served in a shopping cart). Their shakes use local dairy farm Shatto milk, and the strawberry is a must have. Blanc also features an extensive bottled beer menu. The atmosphere is lively with modern decor and with that comes an energetic ambience. Check out their catering options as well for events. Blanc is located on the Country Club Plaza and at Mission Farms in Leawood.

Buyer’s Pick of the Week
by Lindsay Burt on March 1st, 2010

My pick for this week is the Marc by Marc “Acasia Dress” and our boutiques have it in both the blue color way and all black. It’s really one of the most unique dresses that came in for Spring. I just love it’s techno/sporty vibe and the cut out in the back is such and unexpected way to show some skin with out revealing too much. And the best part about this dress–it retails for only $198! That’s such a cool look for such a great price point!

Number Four
by Alexia Culton on February 25th, 2010

This season at fashion week I was lucky enough to grab a front row seat at Juan Carlos Obando’s Fall ‘10 show at Milk Studio’s.  What a HOT event and there was some pretty awesome swag!
Awaiting each attendee was a collection of hair care products that fashion designer Obando launched this past year.  The collection named Number Four was “founded with the mission to develop a creative, high performance hair care line that runs parallel to fashion, science, art, music and Industrial Design creative cycles.”  Each Number Four product claims…”We exclude all ingredients potentially toxic to humans, rare vintage couture, and our dear environment; 100% Vegan, Sulfate, Gluten, Bad Taste and Paraben Free formulas are never ever tested on any animal.”

LOCAL HIT: El Patron
by Emily Baldwin on February 23rd, 2010

As a fan of mexican food I can always be persuaded into going for a
meal. El Patron is a new favorite and one that is authentic AND has a
great atmosphere. The staff is out of the world, accomodating, and
efficient. Love the variety of sauces and would recommend any of them
plus a side of guacamole. The food is fresh, interesting, and priced
well. Not to be boring but try the tacos as the crispy shells are out
of this world. They have a great tequila list and speciality drinks
are a plenty. Monday though Friday happy hours from 3-6 consist of 1/2
off appetizers, margaritas, and mojitos. Located on Southwest
Boulevard it has the charm of a locally owned spot with a boutique
envrionment.

Beauty Obsession: MAC Tinted Lip Conditioner
by Abigail Kretsinger on February 12th, 2010

I am obsessed with this new MAC tinted lip conditioner.  I love lipstick and gloss but in these dry winter months I need something that will moisturize my lips as well.  So voila, I found my new favorite lip product!  It has the consistency of a balm but the color of a sheer lip gloss.  It even has SPH 15, which is always a plus, and is formulated with shea butter, avocado extract, wheat germ oil and vitamins A and E.  It is simply heaven in a jar!  Even better is comes in 6 colors from a brown, to a coral, to a hot pink, so there is one for every skin coloring.

Dolce Baking Company: Prairie Village KS
by Abigail Kretsinger on February 10th, 2010

I recently popped into the much raved about Dolce Baking Company in prairie village and I must say I was impressed!  Not only were the sweets to die for, but the bakery was welcoming and had such an authentic, local feel.  The company is owned and operated by Erin Brown and has been open since the fall of 2007.  It is the perfect place to stop and grab a coffee and cinnamon roll (which are phenomenal) on the way to work or a sweet treat on your lunch break.  They are also well-known for their delectable cakes for weddings and other special events.  If you are looking for new place to meet friends or satisfy your sweet tooth, try Dolce!  I’m sure you will enjoy it as much as I did.

by Allie Palmer on February 9th, 2010

When you’re planning your next trip over seas keep Barcelona in mind, you will defiantly want to check into one of the several new or refurbished and distinctively cool hotels that have opened there recently including W Barcelona.  The latest hotel launch, capturing a ton of design attention is the Mandarin Oriental Barcelona <http://www.mandarinoriental.com/barcelona/> . Mandarin Oriental Barcelona’s official opening was celebrated in November 2009 with a lavish gala attended by the city’s elite and its hype has lived up to everyone’s expectations.
The hotel’s cool factor is a combination of three elements: The convenience of the central location, the good bones of the refurbished former bank building, and most significant, Spanish-born Milano-based architect, Patricia Urquiola, whose responsible for the interior decor of the 98-room hotel, including most of the furnishings. Winter Blues Clues
by Nikki Toll on February 5th, 2010

I am a sun-lover. I despise being cold. I have no idea why I live in the Midwest. When the days begin to grow shorter, darker, and colder, my anxiety reaches a fever pitch. Winter is here. For six long months, I will languish in agony without my beloved sunshine and warm weather. It makes me cranky, lazy, and strangely, hungry? I decided to look into my maladies, to find if they held any merit:
Seasonal Affective Disorder is defined as a “form of depression that occurs in relation to the seasons, most commonly beginning in winter.” SAD, as it’s commonly referred to, (how appropriate) is characterized by the following symptoms: Continue Reading…

Frei Brothers: Pinot Noir
by Nikki Toll on February 3rd, 2010

I’m always on the lookout for a great mid-priced bottle of wine. I wouldn’t consider myself any sort of a connoisseur, however, I have consumed my fair share of wine. At a recent get together with some girlfriends at the Classic Cup here on the Plaza, an owner of the restaurant stopped by our table and suggested the Frei Brothers Pinot Noir. Continue Reading…

Buyer’s Pick of the Week
by Lindsay Burt on January 27th, 2010

My pick this week is the perfect transitional dress. It is the Arita dress by Diane Von Furstenberg and it’s great for when you are tired of the same old winter looks but the weather hasn’t turned quite warm enough for spring styles. The dress is an updated version of the bandage dress that was so popular this fall, but comes in a light weight, stretch material and bold colors. We carry it in “Dragon Red” which is a great color to pick up now since it’s the hottest color for spring.

Buyer’s Pick of the Week
by Lindsay Burt on December 21st, 2009

buyerpick1221My pick this week is an amazing statement dress that also transitions from season to season. It is the “Reena” Dress from the Diane Von Furstenberg resort collection. I love this dress because it looks so great with tights for holiday parties and New Year’s. However, it looks fantastic worn with just bare legs and a great pair of heels for the spring transition months to come. The print is fun and flirty without being overly girly and the ruching detail all over the dress helps to conceal and flatter the body. This dress would be a great piece for now and later on in the months to come!

Gossip Girl Stylist Writes a Book: “You Know You Want It”
by Kristen Coulson on December 15th, 2009

youknowyouwantit_Post

EricDamanWe’re excited for the book “You Know You Want It” by Gossip Girl stylist Eric Daman. Hoping it will offer more insight into the mind behind the fabulous and original styling of one of our favorite TV series. Eric and his team of 25 assistant stylists have impressed audiences and helped the wardrobe of GG become a character of its own. Items on Eric’s “wardrobe must haves” include a great fitting pair of denim (like Rich and Skinnys), a little white t-shirt (such as James Perse), a cocktail dress, and a quality handbag (Daman suggests this bag should set you back upwards of $200). Loaded with pictures this book is a coffee table accessory for those who love fashion. Don’t get your hopes up too high however….the GG characters are not the models. On sale now at Barnes and Noble for $22.49

Dressing for the changing cold temperatures seems like an easy task, but a lot of thought needs to go into mastering the winter layers without looking frumpy and unbalanced.  Keeping in mind you have to be sensible about dressing for warmth, it is just as important to remain stylish with these pieces.  There are a few key elements everyone should have for winter: a great coat and winter accessories.  Once you have the coat, you just need to style with scarves, great boots, and a bag large enough to fit over all the layers.  Take note from these New York dwelling fashionistas to get the look.
