Buyer’s Pick of the Week
by Lindsay Burt on March 10th, 2010

My pick for this week is a must have item for spring–the jumper. I know the idea of a “onesie” was a little hard to wrap our brains around last spring when rompers and jumpers first hit, but it’s time to step outside of your comfort zone and let them into your wardrobe. They are back in a big way this spring and not only are they cute on, they make getting dressed a lot less complicated. My favorite is the tie front jumpsuit by Elizabeth and James. It’s got a great button up detail on the neckline and the slouchy fit of the pant is not only flattering, but very on trend with its’ harem pant inspiration. This jumpsuit is perfect for a casual spring day with gladiators and a few chunky bangles, or dressed up for night with some strappy heels and gold jewelry.

My pick for this week is the Marc by Marc “Acasia Dress” and our boutiques have it in both the blue color way and all black. It’s really one of the most unique dresses that came in for Spring. I just love it’s techno/sporty vibe and the cut out in the back is such and unexpected way to show some skin with out revealing too much. And the best part about this dress–it retails for only $198! That’s such a cool look for such a great price point!

My pick for this week is a great example of one of this spring’s biggest trends–lace! Personally when I think of lace, I feel like it’s either really dated looking or should only be used in undergarments and lingerie, but this season’s lace details are updated, modern, and feminine. Check out the “Aint Misbehavin” dress by Trina Turk–it has a clean sleek silhouette and an updated take on all-over lace.

As spring deliveries roll in the excitement builds as we open up boxes full of fresh spring styles! My pick for this week is a dress that stands out from the many new and amazing spring pieces. It’s the Beaded Neck dress by Milly. We actually have it at the boutique in “natural” which is a beautiful soft ivory color and great for spring especially since neutrals are so trendy. It has a really form flattering silhouette that keeps you thin at the waist, but the best part of the dress of course is the metal embellishments around the neckline that also carry over to a “V” in the back. I just love this dress because even though the embellishments are youthful and edgy, the fit is ageless and timeless.

My favorite item this week is on point with the biggest footwear trend for Spring–the oxford! It’s the Joie “Louie Louie” oxford and it is one of the best flats I’ve seen for this season. I love the fact that you can wear a flat for comfort and still look polished. The cognac color of the “Louie Louie” is perfect for Spring and looks great with easy day dresses or rolled denim.

My pick this week is the perfect transitional dress. It is the Arita dress by Diane Von Furstenberg and it’s great for when you are tired of the same old winter looks but the weather hasn’t turned quite warm enough for spring styles. The dress is an updated version of the bandage dress that was so popular this fall, but comes in a light weight, stretch material and bold colors. We carry it in “Dragon Red” which is a great color to pick up now since it’s the hottest color for spring.

I can’t believe it, but Spring fashions are already here! Resort and pre-spring deliveries have arrived and they look amazing! There might still be snow on the ground, but if you are lucky enough to travel to warmer climates you might need to pick up a few new pieces. My pick this week is perfect for many getaway destinations. It’s the chain link tank dress by Milly. The dress is jersey so you can take it most anywhere and throw it on. The navy and white coloring gives it a nautical feel and the chain link design is fun, but sophisticated.

buyerpick1221My pick this week is an amazing statement dress that also transitions from season to season. It is the “Reena” Dress from the Diane Von Furstenberg resort collection. I love this dress because it looks so great with tights for holiday parties and New Year’s. However, it looks fantastic worn with just bare legs and a great pair of heels for the spring transition months to come. The print is fun and flirty without being overly girly and the ruching detail all over the dress helps to conceal and flatter the body. This dress would be a great piece for now and later on in the months to come!

My pick for this week is incidentally also on my Christmas wish list. The Marc by Marc travel accessories are the perfect gift this season for any women in your life. Whether it’s your mom, your sister, or a girlfriend, anybody would love to open up a package with a new cosmetic bag, travel pouch, or vanity case. They even make super cute laptop covers! And the best part is, none of these items will break the bank. They range in price from about $60-$180. So if you are still struggling with your holiday shopping this year–you can’t go wrong with any of these very cute, but functional accessories.

buyerpick12_7_09My pick for this week is the Haute Hippie “Twisted Bubble Hem Skirt”.

I think it’s such a special piece to style with for holiday parties and events. Pair it with a fitted top, patterned tights and a killer pair of heels and you’ll have an edgy, but feminine look that’s a little more unique than the typically party dress.

Find this look at Standard Style Boutique.

Buyer’s Pick of the Week
by Lindsay Burt on November 16th, 2009

buyerpick_postEveryone’s got to have a “little black dress” in their closet. For most women it is a wardrobe must, a staple, a “go-to” dress that works for all occasions. My pick for this week is not just a weekly favorite item; I’m taking it one step further and naming my favorite “LBD” for the fall season. It is the “Freda Dress” by Twenty8Tweleve and it is truly the ultimate black dress in my book. The one shoulder design keeps with the current trend, but still offers a timeless silhouette. It has subtle details on the back, is slimming to the waist and offers camouflage to the hips with the shape of the skirt. Worn by itself, it’s an edgy, chic dress, but paired with a blazer this dress can go to the most conservative events. I love dresses like this–versatile enough to work with pieces in your closet, but makes enough of a statement to stand alone.

LeMetroJumperTrina Turk – Le Metro Jumper

If you were into the romper trend this past spring you’ll be happy to know that “jumpers” are chic new look to wear this fall/holiday season.

I love this Trina Turk “Le Metro Jumper” because it’s so versatile and flattering. It’s simple, black, and sophisticated with pants that flow to the ground elongating your body. It looks amazing with a novelty belt or statement necklace, and it’s a great alternative to the typical cocktail dress for holiday parties this season.

buyersPost1026My pick for this week is not just a beautiful coat, but an investment piece and it will be paying you back for years to come. It’s the “Runway Ruffle Coat” by Rebecca Taylor and although it looks great on a runway–this coat belongs in your wardrobe. The leopard print of the coat keeps it fun and novelty, while the style and silhouette is classically chic and flattering for all body types. Investing in this timeless coat will be a smart choice now, and for many years later.

Buyer’s Pick of the Week
by Lindsay Burt on October 19th, 2009

BuyerPick101909Now that the weather has officially turned cold, it is time to start rocking the layered looks for fall. My favorite trend this fall is layering tights under those denim shorts you wore all summer. However, if you don’t have a great pair of denim shorts already, then pick up the “Boyfriend Short” by Ever. It has a rolled hem and slouchy fit that looks really cute on and it’s great back to tights. You can pair it with a plaid shirt and boots for a casual day outfit, a t-shirt and blazer for a more polished feel or even a flowy blouse with a great pair of heels for a more feminine look.
Either way, tights paired back to your denim shorts will give your look an edge and still keep you warm in the months to come!

Buyer’s Pick of the Week: Marc by Marc Jacobs Plaid Coat
by Lindsay Burt on October 12th, 2009

IMG_9562The weather has definitely turned chilly and it’s time to start investing in outerwear! My pick for this week is one of my favorite coats for the season. It’s the Marc by Marc Jacobs Parker Plaid Coat and it’s unique coloring and novelty plaid design will keep you cozy and chic this fall and winter. This coat really has the best of both form and function. The a-line shape is right on point with this fall’s forward. over-sized silhouettes and the coat itself is super chunky and warm, so it will hold up to the harshest weather!

Buyer’s Pick of the Week: Haute Hippie Furry Vestigan
by Lindsay Burt on October 8th, 2009

BuyersPickFur

One of the biggest trends that emerged this fall was fur, and my favorite piece this week incorporates this trend with out offending Peta. It is the Haute Hippie Furry Vestigan and it is amazing! It’s hand made and the furry affect is created by many superfine alpaca yarns. Worn over tees and paired with denim, it will keep you cozy and make a statement!

Buyer’s Pick of the Week: Asymmetrical Bow Dress
by Lindsay Burt on September 28th, 2009

AssymetricalBowDressThis week’s buyer’s pick is a real show stopper. It is the Asymmetrical Bow Dress by Milly. This form fitting party dress is really beautiful in person and no matter what your vantage point is, it makes a dramatic statement with its over-sized bow detail. It’s also being featured in the September issue of In Style magazine, but the best part is that now through the month of September we are offering this dress at a special promotion price of 20% off in both of our locations!

Buyer’s Pick of the Week: Twenty8Twelve & Modern Vintage
by Lindsay Burt on September 16th, 2009

BuyersPick-BikersThis week’s buyers pick is a tribute to hardcore bikers everywhere for their motorcycle inspired fashions. This edgy trend is gaining momentum for fall and is a great way to incorporate a leather look to your fall wardrobe. One of my favorite pieces is the Grady Jacket from Twenty 8 Twelve. It’s got a very “motochic” design with zippers and the cropped silhouetted, and looks great paired back to flirty dresses or just denim and basic tees. My other favorite motorcycle inspired piece is the Mack Boot by Modern Vintage. It is truly a biker’s boot with its chunky heel and buckles. You don’t have to drive a Harley to rock these pieces, but they will certainly give some extra edge to any fall look.

Buyer’s Pick of the Week
by Lindsay Burt on August 31st, 2009

BuyerPick831_PostThis week’s pick is a burst of flaming color in a sea of drab, dark tones. It’s the Marc by Marc Jacobs Solid Silk Ruffled dress in “Molten Lava.” First off, it’s such great color–”Molten Lava.” I have to admit, although I love fall fashion, it gets a little depressing when it all rolls in and you are overwhelmed by blacks, browns, charcoals, and variety of other grey hues. This little red number really brightens up your fall wardrobe and works great layered back to chunky knits in neutral colors. The ruffle detail keeps it interesting with out being over-designed and the wrap around style is flattering for any body type.

Buyer’s Pick of the Week: Fur Skirt by Elizabeth & James
by Lindsay Burt on August 24th, 2009

Fur_Skirt_Elizabeth_JamesThis week’s buyer pick comes from one of my favorite collections, Elizabeth & James. It’s the Fur Skirt and its metallic layered fur texture is unreal!

I’m so excited for the new “Glam Rock” trend that is emerging for fall and incorporating fun, unique fur and faux fur pieces like this. It would look amazing for a night out paired with just a simple tank and some killer booties. It can also make a polished, professional look more interesting by wearing it with a fitted classic top and a cute, tailored blazer. Either way this skirt will definitely add some flare to any style.
