Buyer’s Pick of the Week

My pick for this week is more than just one piece, but a whole look. School is now in session and I’m loving this classic, prep school inspired look by Haute Hippie. They really did a great job of pairing preppy oxford shirts back to embellished minis for a cool contrast of conservative polish with edgy glam. You can find both the boyfriend oxford shirts (with attached scarf) and the sequined minis at Standard Style Boutique.

One of my favorite LBD’s of the season is Milly’s Dominque dress. The shape is so figure flattering and the over-sized bow keeps it youthful and fun.

The summer is winding down and it’s back to school time again! If you are not quite ready for it yet, maybe this Fall’s emerging “prep school” trend will inspire you. Tartan plaids, stripes, and classic red & blue hues will be very big this fall as well as preppy button-downs, polished mini skirts, and oxford shoes. I especially love this Marc by Marc “Ripley Tartan Dress.” It’s a bold way to get the prep school look and it also has a high fashion edge.

My pick for this week incorporates two of my favorite trends for fall–glamour and military looks. It’s the Haute Hippie sequin sweat shirt and it’s one of the best pieces for fall. The entire shirt is beaded, giving it a shimmery affect and the army coloring keeps it edgy while staying current with the military trend for fall. I love it paired with a sleek skirt, or dressed down with skinny denim. Either way it’s one of those special pieces that makes a statement no matter how you wear it.

My pick for this week is one of the best “little black dresses” I’ve seen in a long time. It’s the “Asymmetrical Twist Dress” by Halston Heritage. First off, I love the design–it’s black and fitted making your silhouette look slim and sleek and the neckline is so unique that it makes a statement out of basic black. It’s extremely comfortable and easy to wear. And even better, it’s reasonably priced at $263.00! For a Halston Heritage piece and a staple in your closet, I’d say that’s a great deal!

It may be 90 degrees outside but fall fashion is already here. As the new fall deliveries have started to arrive, there is one piece that grabbed my attention right away. Marc by Marc came out with one of the best military jackets of the season! If you haven’t already heard one of the biggest trends this fall is military inspired fashion and a light weight military jacket is essential. I think this jacket can also come in handy during the summer months on camping trips or cool nights at the lake. It looks awesome with the sleeves rolled, paired back to a tank and shorts. I also love styling it belted with a contrasting feminine dress. Either way you’d better pick up your military jacket for the upcoming season!

Well the weather has turned hot and it’s time to start spending the weekends poolside. If you are in need of a swim suit update I would suggest you check out Trina Turk swimwear. Just like the Trina Turk ready to wear collection the swim suits are in bright, bold colors and exotic prints. They are also so flattering because they have just enough coverage in the areas you need while still showing the right amount of skin. The halter styles are great for extra support for curvier bodies, and the bandeau tops are perfect for summer tanning.

I have a couple of favorites this week and both are great “go-tos” for summer weddings and events. I love the cocktail dresses from Laila Azhar and Black Halo. They look so polished and sophisticated. When you are frantically trying to find that perfect dress for an upcoming summer wedding or event, start with these designers and you can’t go wrong.

My pick for this week is a staple piece that everyone needs this spring and summer. It’s the spring blazer–an essential piece in the spring/summer wardrobe for a variety of seasonal events. I love this blazer in white because it’s so fresh and it makes an outfit pop, but blazers in neutral tones like sand and nude are perfect for warm weather too. I love the Elizabeth and James blazers and their super tailored fit. They are perfect for cool nights over dresses or over a sleeveless top for those places where the air conditioner is cranked too high. So if you do not have one already, put your black blazer to rest until fall, and pick up a white or neutral blazer to get you through the warmer months to come!

My pick for this week is one of the seasons best examples of the embellished trend for the season. It’s the beaded tank dress from Alice & Olivia. In person it is simply stunning! The beaded details flow throughout the dress and flatter the body, while shimmering and sparkling. However, the neutral tone keeps the dress from being too over the top. This dress is so chic and beautiful. Wear it to any spring/summer event and you’ll surely be the best dressed there!

This week’s must have item is staple for spring and summer events–the “little WHITE dress.” I love this one shoulder ruffle dress from Rebecca Taylor. It’s dressy enough to pair with heels and bright jewelry for cocktails, but is so simple and easy, you can throw on some flat sandals and bangles for more casual affairs. So long as you are not wearing it to someone’s wedding, this little white dress is perfect for all your spring and summer events.

My pick for this week is one of the best rompers of the season from Marc by Marc Jacobs. As rompers have become a widely accepted trend this spring, there are a lot of options too choose from. However, this romper sets itself apart from the pack with a more vintage aesthetic than the rest. I love the longer length of the short, and the loosely fitting top that is belted at the waist. While other rompers can be skimpy and short, this one is truly flattering for all body types–especially if you are into a more unique vintage inspired look.

My pick for this week highlights not one, but two major trends for Spring 2010. It is the Alice & Olivia top with sequin scales, and not only is the taupe coloring on point with all the fresh, neutral spring tones, but the sequin “scales” give it that glamorous embellished look that is so big right now. It’s so cute and easy paired back to a great pair of dark skinnies and cut-out heels.

My pick for this week is an essential, “must have” item for spring–the denim jacket. Oh yes, it’s back and apart of the new wave of “Americana” inspiration that is catching on for spring. My favorite is the “Moores” denim jacket by Twenty 8 Twelve. It looks so cute thrown over a casual dress with gladiator sandals, or for a really preppy, tailored look, pair it back to your favorite button down and some oxford shoes. Either way you will be casual chic for spring.

My pick for this week is a floral cocktail dress from 12th Street by Cynthia Vincent. Florals are so huge for spring and this dress is a great way to bring in the feminine trend while still looking polished and put together. The floral print is so bright and fun, but the black skirt at the bottom really balances out the look for a slimming effect.

My pick for this week is the “Botanist” dress by Trina Turk. It so perfect for this spring as styles are going more polished, ladylike, and incorporating an “Americana” feel to them. I love the detailing at the neck and the fitted silhouette of the dress along with the navy color is very slimming.

My pick this week is the best of the best of one of Spring’s most glamorous trends. Metallics and sequined embellishments have been all over the spring runways mixed with beautiful neutral tones, and this 3.1 by Phillip Lim “Croc Sequined Dress” is the most amazing piece I’ve seen yet. It’s so unique and innovative, yet flattering. This dress is a total show stopper!

My pick for this week is a must have item for spring–the jumper. I know the idea of a “onesie” was a little hard to wrap our brains around last spring when rompers and jumpers first hit, but it’s time to step outside of your comfort zone and let them into your wardrobe. They are back in a big way this spring and not only are they cute on, they make getting dressed a lot less complicated. My favorite is the tie front jumpsuit by Elizabeth and James. It’s got a great button up detail on the neckline and the slouchy fit of the pant is not only flattering, but very on trend with its’ harem pant inspiration. This jumpsuit is perfect for a casual spring day with gladiators and a few chunky bangles, or dressed up for night with some strappy heels and gold jewelry.

My pick for this week is the Marc by Marc “Acasia Dress” and our boutiques have it in both the blue color way and all black. It’s really one of the most unique dresses that came in for Spring. I just love it’s techno/sporty vibe and the cut out in the back is such and unexpected way to show some skin with out revealing too much. And the best part about this dress–it retails for only $198! That’s such a cool look for such a great price point!
