Alexander McQueen: Final Collection
by
Kristen Coulson on March 17th, 2010

From www.wwd.com
“Each piece is unique, as was he.” Those simple words, at the end of the show notes for the final collection by the late Lee Alexander McQueen, captured the sentiment of a singular talent extinguished too soon. The 16 showpieces that paraded slowly through a gilded salon at the headquarters of luxury titan Francois Pinault were all cut “on the stand” by McQueen in the weeks before he took his own life. In their artistry, imagination and technical wizardry, they brought his fashion spirit to life. Here was a designer with the intelligence and depth of culture to reference centuries of history, and such a forward-looking vision that some of his final messages to the world came via Twitter. A floor-length black gown — the skirt a sweep of couture satin caught in curtain folds at the hip, the bodice paved in golden rococo swirls, the sleeves erupting into three-dimensional embroideries for the “Avatar” age — captured the span of his mind and the skill of his hands.

The Oscar Diet
by
Kristen Coulson on March 14th, 2010

From Elle.com:
Hollywood’s leading ladies never fail to dazzle the night of the Academy Awards—but don’t be fooled: Their svelte silhouettes are the result of highly regimented exercise and eating habits. “Everybody thinks there’s a shortcut but there isn’t,” says Oz Garcia, PhD, the nutrition specialist behind Heidi Klum’s post-baby body and Hilary Swank’s famously lean muscle in Million Dollar Baby. “You should always have a healthy lifestyle, but there are temporary fixes that will help.” Here, Garcia reveals the pre-Oscar guidelines he sets forth for clients like Swank and Klum. Oscars 2010: Carey Mulligan
by
Kristen Coulson on March 12th, 2010

A very noteworthy dress Carey Mulligan took some risks in this Prada number that paid off. The short to long hemline kept the look young and age appropriate while the embellishments of tiny scissors, forks and other utensils made it edgy. She paired it with Fred Leighton jewels.

Oscars 2010: The Leading Men
by
Kristen Coulson on March 9th, 2010

You may think a tux is a tux is a tux…but when it comes to the men at the Oscars its all in the details. Tom Ford looked dashing and I loved the magnolia that seemed to be made of paper. Jake Gyllenhaal was classic with a slightly smaller bow tie. Christopher Plumber stole the show in my book. His navy tux jacket and red pocket scarf made him every bit the leading man. Taylor Lautner’s skinny shawl collar tux was a great update on a classic style.
