The most prominent new trend impacting all the collections was military inspiration: look for it in coats, olive silk blouses and tanks, oatmeal colored sweaters, olive dresses, military boots, and a touch of cargo silk pants.

Local Hot Spot: Blanc Burgers and Bottles
by Emily Baldwin on March 8th, 2010

A local favorite burger joint  has moved and we are so excited about their newest location on the country club plaza. A perfect spot for lunch or dinner Blanc Burger and Bottles can meet anyones appetite. Known for their gourmet burgers, every menu item is creative and delicious. My favorites include the bison burger and the au poivre burger. Not craving beef? try the delicious turkey burger. And for a vegetarian option, the portobello burger. If you haven’t branched out from the burgers I suggest definitnely trying the calamari fries and the butter lettuce salad. And for a different option on french fries opt for the sweet potato fries (served in a shopping cart). Their shakes use local dairy farm Shatto milk, and the strawberry is a must have. Blanc also features an extensive bottled beer menu. The atmosphere is lively with modern decor and with that comes an energetic ambience. Check out their catering options as well for events. Blanc is located on the Country Club Plaza and at Mission Farms in Leawood.

Hot New Line: Equipment
by Emily Baldwin on February 26th, 2010

From Style.com:

Once upon a time in the late seventies, Christian Restoin—the longtime partner of Carine Roitfeld—married the aesthetics of Network and disco with a line of breezy silk menswear-styled shirts for women called Equipment. Throughout the eighties and nineties, they were the linchpin day-to-night item in a smart city girl’s wardrobe. For a label to shutter because of family and business politics, as happened here, is a familiar nineties story. But it’s a promising one Equipment’s telling for the aughts: The line re-launches for Spring 2010.

Serge Azria—brother of Max, owner of Current/Elliott and Joie, and now informal “guardian” of Equipment– reveals that Restoin, who remains connected to the newly relaunched brand, has kept every Equipment shirt ever created in his Paris archives—all 3,500 of them. Meanwhile, the 135 new Equipment styles do the brand’s “new vintage” legacy justice and integrate seamlessly into the tailored, menswear-inspired trends hitting New York’s runways this week. That’s something mothers and daughters alike can appreciate.

Trend: Safari
by Emily Baldwin on February 25th, 2010

The safari trend is here now and can be styled through multiple prints, solids, and materials. Dress up this look by trying an animal print or safari themed pattern in dresses or embellished tops. Dress down the look through solids in blouses, shorts, and rompers in olives, blacks, and tans. Add layering pieces such as military style jackets to toughen up the outdoor vibe.

LOCAL HIT: El Patron
by Emily Baldwin on February 23rd, 2010

As a fan of mexican food I can always be persuaded into going for a
meal. El Patron is a new favorite and one that is authentic AND has a
great atmosphere. The staff is out of the world, accomodating, and
efficient. Love the variety of sauces and would recommend any of them
plus a side of guacamole. The food is fresh, interesting, and priced
well. Not to be boring but try the tacos as the crispy shells are out
of this world. They have a great tequila list and speciality drinks
are a plenty. Monday though Friday happy hours from 3-6 consist of 1/2
off appetizers, margaritas, and mojitos. Located on Southwest
Boulevard it has the charm of a locally owned spot with a boutique
envrionment.
