Emmys Red Carpet 2010
by
Allie Palmer on September 1st, 2010

The 62nd Annual Primetime Emmys aired Sunday night with hits and misses spotted on the red carpet, and this year the opinions were all over the board. I picked my top five while watching the pre-show, but even the most credible fashion critics didn’t agree with some of my choices. Everyone one has their opinion but I applaud those who aren’t afraid to take a risk and pull it off, while some of my picks where a little forward I think my top five did an excellent job of polishing off an entire look without being over the top. Transition in Style
by
Allie Palmer on August 31st, 2010

I would consider myself pretty versatile when it comes to style, not really sticking to one genre or trend. But this girl blows me out of the water, photographed by Vanessa Jackman this foreign fashion student really knows how to mix up a wardrobe. I love how well she combines prints and think it’s a very fashion forward yet wearable look for fall, leopard is blowing up right now so invest in a good print and pair it will a more subtle piece. Belts go unrecognized too often but by adding one it can really polish off an outfit effortlessly and flatter your figure, my favorites this fall include military inspirations and rich colored leather. Since the fall weather is not quite here show off those legs while you can, try layering you mini’s with cardigans and blazers instead of resorting to jeans when the weather cools off.

Boyfriend’s Back
by
Allie Palmer on August 24th, 2010

The boyfriend denim trend first made its big debut a little over a year ago and I feel like some people think the trend has already come and gone, but if you style it right I see this look lasting through the upcoming seasons. The key to this trend is good layering, since the jeans will be looser try finishing the look with a tailored blazer or a fitted leather jacket. This look is also a great way to display your favorite shoes, cuffing your loose jeans and pairing them with great heels takes this casual look to the next level. So instead of packing up your boyfriend jeans pull them out and start layering them in new ways, mix in new trends that we are seeing for this fall including nude-tone silk blouses and army v-necks with a shinny statement necklace.

Fall Transition: Leather Mini Skirt
by
Allie Palmer on August 17th, 2010

My pick for the best fall transitional piece is definitely the leather mini skirt. Since real leather pieces can be an investment make it worth the money and look for a leather mini with a clean silhouette and good length. This season we are seeing the skirt done in many shades of leather I would stick to traditional black as it can go with anything or for something a little different pick a skirt in a nude hue that will fit in great with the neutral trend this fall. Booties and an oversized sweater can finish your daytime look, and change into a sky-high platform heel and silky blouse for your night out.

Gypsy 05
by
Allie Palmer on May 13th, 2010

Gypsy 05 was established in the spring of 2005 by a dynamic brother and sister duo, Osi and Dotan Shoham. Born and raised in Israel, the siblings went on to master their crafts worlds apart. While Dotan was in Los Angeles staking his claim in the garment dye industry, Osi was in Israel gaining momentum in the advertising business. Years later, Osi moved to the United States to join her brother on the west coast. She began to work alongside Dotan at his dye house, Pacific Blue Inc, which is notorious in the fashion industry for its unique techniques and fresh use of color. After having studied the business closely for years, the pair noticed the need for truly unique garments in the contemporary apparel market. With Dotans experience as a garment dye and print business owner, they had a competitive advantage that could conveniently bring Osi’s creative visions to life…and thus Gypsy 05 was born.

Spotlight: Austin Texas
by
Allie Palmer on May 5th, 2010

This week I’ll be heading back down to Austin, Texas for my sister’s college graduation, and I’m equally excited for her as I am for my being back in Austin for the second time this year. While most of Texas has been invaded by suburbia, Austin remains unique and eclectic in all aspects making it my number one vacation spot. So I thought I would give everyone a few of my favorite things to do while in the Texas capital, as I highly encourage anyone looking for a summer road trip to move Austin to the top of your list:

Coachella Fashions
by
Allie Palmer on April 30th, 2010

Come April Coachella is the place to be for everyone from die-hard hipster kids to Hollywood’s “it” crowd, and while I want to say I stay hooked for the music I have to admit Coachella sets the fashion trends for summer each year and this year was no different. As far as beauty goes, natural hair reigns supreme either let loose or in a high-bun for a more fashion forward look. Nails came in pop blues and greens to nudes and grays, so get out the remover and buff off the black.
For fashion rompers are back yet again for your summer wardrobe, at Coachella they where belted at the waist and paired with oxfords and sandals. Short baby-doll and shift dresses in bright colors and graphic prints where the easy go to look with the shoe of the season the clog as well as strappy heeled sandals in neutral colors. Cut-off jean shorts continue to be the number one choice for a laid back look with white being the front runner, paired with floral silk tanks and sheer pocket tees. The two must have accessories this summer, a great pair of sunglasses the Rayban wayfarer is still a staple style for summer and Linda Farrow’s vintage inspired frames are definitely our new go to; and lastly don’t forget to pick up a cross-body bag to complete your summer look, we love the classic shape and the different color leathers of Marc by Marc Jacobs cross-bodies this season. Come by Standard Style to pick up these key pieces for your summer wardrobe and get the season started early.

Linda Farrow Sunglasses
by
Allie Palmer on April 29th, 2010

When Linda Farrow asked her optician husband to help create a range of sunglasses, the resulting label, which was responsible for Yoko Ono’s trademark shades, became a 1970s phenomenon. In 2003, Farrow’s son Simon Jablon revived the brand after discovering a back catalogue of over 2000 vintage styles in the family’s Islington warehouse. Collaborations with Luella, Alexander Wang, The Row and Matthew Williamson followed; as well as a host of stylish fans including Kate Moss, Nicole Richie and Sienna Miller. Linda Farrow’s new lines have become a sunglass phenomenon. Timeless in design, uncompromising in quality, unabashedly luxurious, Linda Farrow takes sunglasses to the next level. Come grab your pair from collaborations with The Row, Matthew Williamson, and Alexander Wang, arriving at Standard Style Boutique this May.

Style Tips: Taylor Tomasi Hill
by
Allie Palmer on April 16th, 2010

From www.kisskiss-coast2coast.blogspot.com
Fashion’s favorite redhead is making moves. The perpetually well-clad and impeccably-shod Accessories Director will be leaving her Teen Voguettes for Nina Garcia’s team at Marie Claire. In honor of Taylor’s years at Teen Vogue, now would be as good a time as any post to a little tribute.
Here are a few tips to looking as chic as Taylor:
1. Don’t be afraid of investment staples- for Tomasi, this happens to be a bright blue Fendi bag, Phi boots, grey flannel quilted vest, black boyfriend blazer,& skinny black belt not name a few
2. Buy different versions of your favorite items
3. Add single menswear item, preferably oversized- peacoat, button-down, brogues, pleated cropped trousers
4. Add something around the neck such as a printed scarf or chunky necklace
5. Your handbag should always have a shoulder strap, but you should never use it.
6. Stick to neutrals, black and white for clothing. Leave the pop color to accessories… and hair.
7. Dye hair RED. Immediately.

Designer Spotlight: Karla Spetic
by
Allie Palmer on April 13th, 2010

I came across these images from Karla Spetic’s Fall 2010 collection and fell in love. Everything from the color palate to the draping and using of textured knits really drew me in, since this was a new line to me I figured I would do my part in helping spread the word.
Born in Croatia, fashion designer Karla Spetic spent her early childhood in the beautiful town of Dubrovnik before up and leaving in 1993 to start a new life in Australia. Although Karla has been calling Australia home ever since, Karla’s work is very much influenced by the complexity, beauty and uniqueness of her city of birth.
Having graduated in 2005 from the renowned East Sydney Fashion Design Studio, Karla’s involvement in the fashion industry was formalized and set in stone with the launch of her self-titled label Karla Spetic in 2006.
The label is visually striking in design and is a tribute to quality and innovation. Karla uses tailoring techniques to sculpt distinct shapes whilst emphasizing the feminine silhouette. Her attention to detail is scrupulous, and it’s this objective of perfection that is set to ensure that Karla Spetic´ has what it takes to secure her place within the industry.

Designer Winery
by
Allie Palmer on April 8th, 2010

We love a fine wine, especially when it can be enjoyed in as thoughtful an environment as this one. Welcome to Merus, a “designer” winery like no other. Located in the Napa Valley in California, Merus looks more like a 5 five restaurant than your average cellar-door retail outlet. Exposed beams are the only nod to the past in this interior design scheme, which is thoroughly modern with a hint of California coziness. Amsterdam-based Uxus Design is the architecture and design firm behind the winery. While Merus wine isn’t the easiest to get your hands on, only producing one wine each year in small quantities; their new winery is worth a trip to the west coast but by invitation only of course!

Abbey Lee Kershaw
by
Allie Palmer on April 1st, 2010

This Australian beauty, Abbey Lee Kershaw, born June 12, 1987 in Melbourne, has become the face of fashion. After winning the Australian CoverGirl Model Search, Abbey was vaulted into the big time. She has appeared in ad campaigns for brands such as Gucci, D & G and CK Jeans as well as editorials for V, the cover of Australian Vogue, Chinese Vogue, W and scoring a 20-page editorial in Vogue Italia’s. During Paris Fashion Week, Abbey Lee fainted just as she was about to exit the runway at the Alexander McQueen Alexander_McQueen Spring/Summer 2009 Runway. The cause of the fainting spell was thought to be the combination of the tight corset she wore and her sky high heels, leading her to become one of the top models to boycott these fashion risks refusing to walk in certain runway shows. This boycott had no effect on her future; Abbey was the number one face for the Spring/Summer 2010 shows appearing on more runways than any other model. So keep your eyes peeled for this Aussie wunderkind, it shouldn’t be too hard to spot her!

Design Spotlight: Olivia Harris
by
Allie Palmer on March 24th, 2010

Joy Gryson started her career working for industry powerhouses such as Liz Claiborne, Coach, Calvin Klein, and eventually landed at Marc Jacobs, where she rose through the ranks to the title of Director of Design and Development for Marc Jacobs Handbags and Accessories. Joy and her team created some of the most influential handbag designs ever. In 2006 Joy went out on her own and launched the Gryson brand of luxury accessories. The GRYSON brand has garnered much attention in a short period of time, from collaborating with major retailer Target for a limited time only guest designer program to being nominated for the CFDA accessories designer of the year award for emerging talent. In 2007 Joy Gryson introduced the Olivia Harris brand of contemporary accessories. The OH line of bags is younger, edgier, and a little grittier then her older sister Gryson. The OH line is inspired by rock n Roll, girl power, and it is a lot of fun.

Alexander McQueen’s Pre-Fall Lookbook
by
Allie Palmer on March 19th, 2010

Alexander McQueen’s Pre-Fall lookbook was recently released reminding us of what an amazing talent we have lost. With his attention to detail and in my opinion the best draping skills we have ever seen this fashion legend will not be forgotten. His Pre-Fall collection was strong, structured, and sophisticated; pieces that could live in anyone’s wardrobe for years to come and still look fresh. This collection really embodied the “it” girl, no matter what age that girl might be. His talent will be forever captured in his best work and this Pre-Fall collection stands out for having a level of detail that most designers would be satisfied with in their complete seasonal collection, Mr. McQueen you will be missed!

Transition Trend
by
Allie Palmer on March 16th, 2010

With spring right around the corner more transition looks have been popping up all over the fashion blogs. After my daily visits to a few of my favorites the trend that caught my eye was nudes paired with light blue, or the color of washed out denim. I love the idea of layering such pale, washed out pieces to create this delicate pulled together look. It’s a nice break from the heavy dark layered ensembles we’ve been seeing for the past few months. So start breaking out the lighter pieces from your closet and stop by Standard Style Boutique to check out some of the amazing neutral pieces we have in for spring, because I think we are all ready for this winter to be over.
