Not Your Grandpa’s Grandpa Sweater

One of my favorite parts of Fall, and trust me there are a lot, is getting to pull my sweaters out of hiding. While I have a mix of classics like pull over v-necks and thinner cardigans, there is one that stands above the rest…the shawl collar cardigan. For me, nothing beats an oversized, heavy knit, shawl collar cardigan. And I am not alone, designers have been jumping on the shawl trend in recent years, most significantly this Fall.
My love affair started a few years ago and since then the oversized cardigan has replaced most of my jackets. I wear my shawl collar cardigan as a piece of outwear, layer it with a trench as it cools down, and even treat it like a sweat shirt (so maybe my infatuation borders on obsession). It’s a great melding of function and style, believe me nothing is worse than a piece of clothing with function but no style (they’re called Crocs).
A word of advice though, go with a grey, lighter brown, or possibly navy because it will go with almost everything in your closet. And not only that but you won’t get tired of it after a few wears or even a few years.
As always, whatever you wear you’ll look good with confidence (unless it has rhinestones on it, then you won’t look good no matter what…sorry).
