Summer Hair Trend: The Grown Out look
by Allie Palmer on April 16th, 2009 in Fashion

There is a new trend in hair color and its one most women visit salons regularly to avoid. The grown out look features the appearance of highlights grown out way beyond what most of us would allow. This trend in color has been seen everywhere from our favorite New York foursome to fashion editorials in foreign magazines.
I first noticed this trend on Carrie Bradshaw in the last few scene of Sex and the City the movie, and fell in love. Sara Jessica Parker shows the easiest way to wear the trend, a few months over grown and some extra highlights added in inches away from the scalp. On Parker the look is obviously styled yet gives a low maintenance vibe, this shows a great example of the look going from day to night.
Reality star and fashionista Whitney Port also sports this trend, while her look takes a lot longer to achieve the right layers can emphasize this look quicker. Since most women get highlights only around the crown and top few layers of hair, cutting the hair in layers allows the longer hair underneath to contrast with the grown out highlights adding depth.
This trend that is just getting big here in the US originated in the far East and migrated over. In Japan pop-stars are taking the look to the next level by dying their lighter grown out pieces neon colors. Scene here in Elle UK Chanel muse Venessa Paradis sports a very drastic version. Her dark brown color next to her bleached out ends give off a very dramatic effect.
So before you book your next appointment for a touch-up, get a gloss treatment instead to add shine and let your locks grow!
